Website is up!

Hey everyone! The website is officially up. Time to get to work fund raising and getting sponsored. Ann and I are really excited and we'd like to thank Mike Holm for all of the hard work he put into putting our website together this past week. It looks awesome!

We are going up to Grand Marais next weekend to talk to more people about getting sponsored and raising money. If you'd like to help, check out the "How to Help" section of our website. Um Ya Ya!

Working on the website!

Hey everyone! Ann and I have been sitting up in Mike Holm's room trying to get our website up and working. We also went by the bank today and opened our own non-profit account! Awesome stuff. We are currently trying to find someone to donate food for our trip so let us know if you have any good ideas. After we get this website up we are going to take a day off for our hundred days march tomorrow, and probably some dog costume shananigans. We're glad some of this snow is melting now so the river won't be completely flooded for our upstream adventures...

Lots more to come!

A Really Great Idea is Born

I have read Canoeing with the Cree by Eric Sevareid several times. While I was home this Christmas Break, I looked into trips that have repeated that epic journey. I was astonished that I couldn't find any women who had been in the media for trying the route. I asked around and no one had heard of any women who had attempted to paddle to Hudson Bay from Minneapolis. When class started again, I asked Natalie if she'd be into paddling this route with me this summer. After some discussion about the purpose of the trip and a meeting with Scott Miller (who completed the trip in 2005), we decided that no matter what we're going canoeing this summer! Ever since that decision, Natalie and I have been in a whirlwind of planning. We decided to pursue sponsors and media connections, so that the trip can be meaningful for a greater community. Last weekend, I went to Grand Marais and Menogyn to publicize our trip and to hang out with my friends who are working for Menogyn this winter. It was a great weekend! I met with Eric Humphrey (an Ole!) at the Lake Superior Trading Post and Jan Lemke at Stone Harbor. They've decided to sponsor us! LSTP will be providing some gear and Stone Harbor will be providing a Langford Canoe! Natalie and I are so pumped! Right now, we're in the process of working with Mike Holm (St. Olaf '11) to build a website that will have more information including: a mission statement, trip plan, sponsors, bios and how you can help! We'll let you know when it's up.

105 days until departure on June 2nd!!!
