WE MADE IT!
After paddling 200 km in two days, we arrived at York Factory at around 4pm on August 25th. There was a young polar bear frequenting the estate, so we slept inside after branding our paddles and eating sausages. Yesterday we flew out in the afternoon with Teagan and Jason the York Factory caretakers. Good thing we got there when we did because after September 4th everyone will leave for the winter. Now, we are in Gillam, Manitoba waiting for the train which will take us to Winnipeg where we will be picked up by our friends, Megan McClanahan and Austin Danicic.
The end of the Hayes was a magical experience, and we will make sure to give you all the play by play with lots of pictures and video when we get back to the states. Thanks for all of your support!! We are so happy that we accomplished our goal and can't wait to tell everyone all about our adventures!!!!!

ReplyDeleteokay lets try this again. HBB (now HBF) rocks my socks! So happy.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could donate a million dollars in honor of your dedication and determination and completing the journey to Hudson Bay. Yayy Ann and Natalie!!
ReplyDeleteI followed you daily, so exciting, can't wait to see the photos!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I read Eric Sevareid's book, Canoeing with the Cree, and I thought then that it was an epic adventure. He always thought of that trip as one of the highlights of his life. You two have taken the dream and made it into a reality and in the process inspired many of your followers, me among them. I followed your trip daily and worried when I did not see a GPS marker on the trip map. You two are first rate expedition paddlers, and I hold you in the highest regard!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading the continuation of your trip journal and seeing the photos you plan on sharing with your followers. Perhaps I will read an article of yours in one of the canoeing magazines or read the book that I hope will follow soon.
Welcome back!
Jay Heath
So proud of you both! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your trip! I know when I completed my trip in 2008, I had such a sense of accomplishment. I'm positive that you feel the same way. Years from now, you'll find yourselves thinking back to what you were doing on that date during your trip, as well as wishing you were still taking the trip!
ReplyDeleteI notice that you chose to take your canoe with you. That means that the plane company charged you an additional fare -- several hundred dollars -- to fly with the canoe. My partner & I chose to leave our canoe back at YF, for the rangers to auction ( also, we didn't want to pay the equivalent of one plane passenger's fare just to transport a canoe one way). Also, the distance is 1500 miles, not the 2250 listed by Severied (yes, we checked). Still, a very good trip nonetheless.
Congrats to both of you! Amazing tip and I look forward to hearing your story.

Hey there CG96. Is that Colton? We had to bring the canoe back as required by our sponsor Stone Harbor, so he could display it in his store. Luckily, it only cost us an extra $100. Also, I've checked the mileage myself, and it's more around 1700 miles (google map lab). However long it was, this trip was not about the mileage it was about the experience.
