On the Mississippi with WI and UWCA

This last Tuesday (May 17th) Natalie and I went canoeing on the Mississippi with a bunch of really great people from WI and beyond. WI runs a program on the Mississippi that brings Minneapolis middle schoolers out on the river for an afternoon in 24 foot voyageur canoes made by the Northwest Canoe Company Inc.

Just north of Minneapolis on the Mississippi heading for the East River Flats

This was our first time going through a lock. It was awesome! We were placed in different canoes so we got to meet some really great people who are working in different ways to get more people outdoors. If you haven't paddled on the Mississippi yet, you should definitely try it.

When we arrived at the East River Flats, Ann Bancroft was there! Natalie and I were introduced by Erik Wrede of the DNR. She was so encouraging and positive and meeting her was a very memorable experience.

We are SO EXCITED to depart on June 2nd, but before we leave we want YOU to come party with us. Our launch party is at the St.Paul Pool and Yacht Club on May 30th (Memorial Day) from 6:30 - 11pm. There will be live music and a delicious pig roast dinner! It is free to attend. Please bring your friends and family, it's going to be a great celebration!

We are currently in Buffalo, NY for D3 frisbee nationals. We have our first games tomorrow morning! Um Ya Ya. Then we fly back to Minneapolis Sunday, finish up finals, enjoy our last few days on campus before graduation, party on the 30th, and hit the river on the 2nd. It'll all happen in the blink of an eye!

For those of you who have donated, we are really thankful for your support. We have $3,200 now, which means at least $700 to put in the Menogyn scholarship fund. We will keep fundraising before, during, and after our trip, so please consider pitching in to help young women go on wilderness adventures!

Have a wonderful week, thanks for following our blog! We'll have about two more until the big adventure begins.

Peace!

Natalie and Ann
